Musée du bois et de la vie rurale Maredret (Maredret Wood and Rural Life Museum)
Situated in Maredret (25 km from Dinant), the Wood and Rural Life Museum is a space created by Mr Vereycken. This true enthusiast has been collecting a variety of objects to form this collection for over thirty years. The museum comprises two distinct parts: the basement containing the part devoted to rural life, and the ground floor where the Wood Museum is located.
In the basement, the main idea is to give a glimpse of articles our ancestors would have used in olden times. In the reconstructed rooms, there is a bakery, a dairy, a laundry and old kitchens. The agricultural world and objects relating to it are also well represented there.
Upstairs, several thousand articles, tools and objects to do with carpentry and woodworking from the 19th century to our day and over 70 species of trees growing in the region between the Sambre and the Meuse. The fauna of the local forest is well represented.
In addition you can visit the shop's art gallery which has works (paintings, engravings, carvings, etc.) by craftsmen from the nearby villages. An interesting place to visit in a splendid village! (Be warned, there is not much explanation in Dutch).
