Durbuy: Book your holiday home and visit the country
Durbuy is rightly called the smallest city in the world: you can cross this town in the Belgian Ardennes completely in about five minutes. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the south of the country. It breaths Middle Ages and the natural setting is simply fantastic, perfect for a great hike. Furthermore, those other great Ardennes cities, Malmedy and La Roche are only an hour and 35 minutes away.
Durbuy, smallest city in the world
And we mean really, really tiny. Durbuy is a charming little city in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes in the province of Luxembourg, and you can cross it on foot in literally five minutes.
But there is a lot to see in Durbuy (pronounced Dur- as in ‘fur’, -bwi or -bwee). The city centre is really cosy and breaths some sort of medieval peace and quiet. The cobble stones are not always very smooth, but that is part of the charm.
Vast parking terrains for autobuses give away that Durbuy is host to many tourists.
Ardennes-Etape offers quite a few holiday cottages in Durbuy. That is why we made a list of some must-see attractions in the area.
Depending on which road you are using to get to Durbuy, you can see the Topiary Park on the other side of the river Ourthe. It is great fun to go take a look.
An absolute must if you are visiting Durbuy during summer time with your kids. This giant maze appears and disappears every year, and every time it has a different lay-out. Walls of corn shape the maze and it is your job to find your way out.
La Petite Batte Market
It is not for every random market that buses of people come from everywhere to have a look. Indeed so for La Petite Batte in Bomal-sur-Ourthe. The market is held since 1994 and every Sunday morning there are loads and loads of people of all sorts coming to check it out.
Belvédère Panoramic Point
If you conquered the difference in altitude – walking, by car or by bike ¬–, it pays off to visit the Belvédère Viewpoint. You get the perfect view and can see how tiny this town actually is.
Durbuy Kayaks or La Petite Merveille
For all your adventurous plans, there are two addresses. Rafting, kayaking on the river Ourthe, death ride, Vespa rental, mountain biking,… It is all possible!
For a nice hike in the Durbuy area, we suggest you stop by the Tourist Information Office (Place aux Foires). Several maps are available (free or for a few euros) with all marked hikes in the region. We took the Boucle de Durbuy (the Durbuy Loop) with a short detour to the Falize Anticline.
For an original family day out in Durbuy, we can recommend the Chevrerie d’Ozo. You learn about products coming from the goat, and can taste delicious goat cheeses.
Ardennes-Etape made a selection of the best holiday homes in Durbuy. To really get to know the city and the surrounding area, it is a great idea to spend a weekend or a week in one of the holiday houses.
