Address :
Signal de Botrange, 4950 Waimes, Belgique
Description

The wind blows free, the horizon stretches wide open, and beneath your feet lies a landscape found nowhere else in the country: welcome to the Signal de Botrange, Belgium's literal high point at 694 metres.

The Signal de Botrange sits at the heart of the High Fens, one of the country's most remarkable natural areas and the beating heart of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park. At 694 metres, it edges just above the Baraque Michel (674 m) and the Baraque de Fraiture (652 m).

There are no snow-capped peaks or dizzying drops here — but something far rarer: sweeping peatlands, rolling heathland and cotton grass swaying to the horizon. This is a place with a character all its own: raw, open and surprisingly restorative.

People come here to unwind, breathe deeply and let time slow down. In winter, a thick blanket of snow turns the plateau into a fairytale scene, where cross-country skis can be rented and put on right on the spot. No snow? No matter. Whether you visit in spring, summer, autumn or winter, a different sweeping view awaits you every time.

Good to know

  • The Botrange tower, built in 1934 and standing 24 metres tall, has marked the high point for decades. Currently closed to visitors, it remains the iconic landmark of the plateau.
  • Just behind it, the Baltia mound lifts you symbolically to exactly 700 metres via a few steps. Standing at the very top — isn't that what it's all about?
  • Easy to reach, with a large car park right on site.
  • A warm brasserie and an information point are within walking distance: perfect for a mid-walk break with a steaming cup of coffee.
  • A starting point or waypoint for countless walks, from a short loop to a longer trek through the fens.
