Description
Rance is located on the Mons-Chimay main road, halfway between Beaumont and Chimay. Although Rance's woods and countryside covers over 1,500 hectares, its housing is grouped around the grand-rue (main street). The famous red
marble, already used in Roman times to make mosaics, had its heyday under Louis XIV, who used it at Versailles Castle.
The imposing columns of the Hall of Mirrors come from Rance.
