Description

As a witness to the coal-mining industry in the Liège region, Blegny-Mine is one of the four major mining sites in Wallonia. It is also recognised as Unesco world heritage.

Go on, then: slip on your high-vis vest and your helmet and go down the mine shaft to 30 and 60 metres below ground. Plunge into the depths and walk through the galleries of a mine steeped in history because it was active as early as the 15th century.

Your guide will tell you about how it evolved over time, and reveal the secrets of this difficult, yet fascinating world. With him, you’ll follow the course of the coal from its extraction to its sorting, the mineral washing and its shipment.

The Blegny-Mine site also has a playground, a minigolf, a little tourist train, temporary exhibitions, a museum and a audio-guide walk to discover the slag heap biotope.
