Malagne - Rochefort Archeopark

Malagne is an archaeological experimenting centre where in summer, kids and adults can try out the life and the techniques of our ancestors. Definitely worth a visit with your family!

Rochefort Archeopark

The Archeopark is situated at the entrance of the town of Rochefort and is a Gallo-Roman museum that was built on the remains of an impressive Gallo-Roman villa. The workshops that are held for individuals and groups are based on "experimental archeology" research.

Here, they study how our ancestors used to cultivate their crops, build their homes, cook their meals... Shortly, they track back their way of living, based on the experiences, tests, parameters etc. until a plausible functioning has been determined for that period in time. In this way, an unknown world that was almost forgotten, can be relived through the eyes of the visitors.

On certain Sundays and holidays of the season, Archeopark organises activities and workshops dressed in costumes of back then. On such days, visitors will learn how to bake bread, brew beer or forge a key using the techniques of our ancestors. For the rest of the time, there are exciting tours foreseen of the remains of the villa's and some reconstructed buildings.

Also to discover: a nature hiking trail, farm animals, ancient crops, aromatic plants, medicinal herbs, fruit species were cultivated back then, archeological expositions, multilingual audio guides, a cafeteria.

Editor’s note

The guides at Archeopark Rochefort are all really passionate and able to fascinate the visitors. We advise you to taste the delicious and refreshing home-made apple juice. For the beer enthusiasts there is a brown ale with honey or a light ale with wheat, both brewed using traditional methods under the ‘la Malagne’ label.

Prolong your fun by spending a night or perhaps an entire weekend in an Ardennes-Etape holiday home!
